Anti-Tamper Technology

Microsemi's West Lafayette Division

Anti-tamper (AT) is defined as the systems engineering activities intended to prevent or delay exploitation of essential or critical technologies. These technologies can be found in both military hardware as well as US civilian infrastructure control systems.

Military technology can be compromised following foreign sales to an ally, accidental loss, or capture during a conflict by an enemy. Because U.S. military hardware and software have a high technical content that provides a qualitative edge, protection of this technological superiority is a high priority.

A comprehensive layered solution is necessary to effectively protect modern systems from these threats. The US Department of Defense requires multiple layers of defense to ensure adequate protection of critical technology. ADS provides solutions using both internal products (EnforcIT®) as well as best-of-breed solutions from throughout the industry.

Software Protection
Microsemi's West Lafayette Division technology protects software applications without requiring source code modifications or complex security infrastructure. It combines strong encryption, anti-debugging, anti-tampering, and real-time execution monitoring to provide comprehensive software protection.
Hardware Protection
ADS's technology provides firmware libraries that create a binding solution between software and hardware to prevent reverse engineering.  The firmware not only helps in performance but provides additional protection against vulnerabilities such as, but not limited to, side-channel attacks.
Information Assurance
The classic approach to security involves securing the data that is transmitted between systems.  Commonly referred to as Information Assurance this technique effectively protects the data while in transit.  However, to date, no one has locked down the applications that created this data.  Your information is not secure unless your application is!  ADS's EnforcIT® product line protects applications form reverse engineering and tampering.

Key Protection
To enhance security, information is frequently stored in an encrypted form.  Decrypting of this data requires the knowledge of a crypto key.  Concealing that key is of primary importance if an operator wishes to prevent system compromise from outside forces.

ADS has developed a patented solution that transforms the decryption key into a series of algebraic computations.  In English what this means is a vastly superior technique for concealing crypto keys.  The product TransformIT™ is available as a software solution for both embedded and desktop platforms.
